The team at DMA Solutions host local and regional events for Learning Disability and Mental Health Nurses and can bring together leading clinicians, researchers, family carers and people who have a lived experience.
Each year DMA Solutions hosts the Positive Commitment, the qualified LD Nurses conference.
A brief history:
The seed of this event was planted by two LD Nurses, Helen Laverty and Debra Moore, over a coffee somewhere in the Midlands. When discussing the question of ‘what next?’ for participants of Positive Choices the Student Nurse Conference when they qualified as registered nurses. The commitment was made to create a partner event.
In 2017 at the Nottingham Positive Choices Event, Helen and Debra made good their promise.
Sponsorship and event management from DMA Solutions enabled a Facebook group and conference to be created along with support and ideas from the learning disability nursing community.
The inaugural conference of the Positive Commitment Network for Registered Learning Disability Nurses was held in Dublin alongside the Positive Choices conference for students in 2018.
Everyone in this field is aware of the Positive Choices Event and many of you here are ‘graduates’ of that network.
Each year the Positive Commitment runs concurrently with day one of the Positive Choices Conference for student LD Nurses, offering opportunities for qualified LD Nurses to network throughout the day.
This event has been running for a few years and offers a space for former LD Nurse students who attended the Positive Choices events, along with existing LD Nurses, to have a forum to celebrate and share good practice.
This would not be possible without the wealth of experience Helen and her colleagues who have worked tirelessly to make the most amazing experience.
